VENETIAN MERMAIDS

VENETIAN MERMAIDS

Designed by Elio Fiorucci
Year 2011
Elio Fiorucci describes as follows his work for the “Tra le Briccole di Venezia” Project: The buildings, the churches, the bridges and the briccole... These sentinels, these signs of approaching land and of mooring, mark the waterways with their varied multi-coloured shafts. These briccole give us colour, movement and rebirth. They become the legs of swimming girls, breaking the surface of the lagoon. This sense of rising out of the water mirrors the flow of culture from one of the world's most beautiful cities and represents the light of Venice.

Possible differences in colour and features of the materials used for production cannot be considered as reason for claim, because linked to their natural characteristics (e.g. wood grain and knots, aspect of the iron or of leather and fabric etc.) or to the handcraft (e.g. lacquer on iron etc.)."
