A classy material with a distinctive scent

Originally from Lebanon and Syria but also widely cultivated in Northern Italy, the cedar of Lebanon belongs to the Pine family. This evergreen conifer can grow up to 40 meters in height, with a trunk that can exceed two and a half meters. Cedar wood is known for its balsamic aroma, derived from its resin, and for its natural moth repellent properties.

TRUNK STORAGE

Riva 1920 recovers cedar trees fallen naturally or cut down for security reasons. The magnificent trunks are stored in the large yard in front of the production unit. The heady scent in the air is striking

CUTTING

Following the cutting phase, the processing phase begins in which the large trunks are sectioned into transversal or longitudinal segments, depending on what will be created.

PROCESSING

Thanks to the most advanced technologies and the use of 5 and 6-axis numerical control machines, the sections of the rough trunk are transformed into Riva 1920 brand products, such as mainly benches and stools. Innovation and technology at the service of design.

SANDING

The pieces are first mechanically sanded, and then hand finished. Attention to detail is expressed through a meticulous and exact work that makes the surface smooth to the touch, enhancing the wood grain to the maximum.

We offer a sophisticated selection of furnishings made from solid cedar wood, hand-finished without the use of artificial treatments. Variations in the wood, such as cracks and movements, are inherent in these fine furniture pieces, a result of adapting to environmental conditions. VULCANO CEDAR

Our collection also includes pieces in "vulcano cedar", achieved through a technique of carbonizing the wood's surface. This process, inspired by an ancient Japanese practice, gives the cedar wood a charcoal-black shade, increasing its resistance to moths, molds, and fires. The worked surface has a rough texture with pronounced grain, while the finish is hand-applied using natural oils.

OUTDOOR

Cedar is also perfect for decorating the outdoors, thanks to its great resistance to humidity and water. Exposed to weatherings, it becomes taupe gray color.
